Bernadette Dinneen Wins 2015 RaboDirect Conversions for Community
Volunteer of the Year
Friday 16 October: Victorian Rugby Volunteer Bernadette Dinneen is the 2015 RaboDirect Conversions for Community Volunteer of the Year.
Nominated for her outstanding contribution to the Rugby community, Ms Dinneen has been a member of the Marcellin College Rugby Parent Support Group committee for ten years, currently holding the role of Secretary.
Ms Dinneen was recognised as a Conversions for Community finalist in June (where she awarded $5,000 for the Rugby community of her choice and $1,000 in a RaboDirect High Interest Savings Account), joining seven other outstanding Victorian Rugby Volunteers in the running for 2015 Volunteer of the Year. Following the online voting period, she was announced as the 2015 RaboDirect Conversions for Community Volunteer of the Year at the Weary Dunlop Lunch on Friday 16 October. Ms Dinneen received a cast bronze Conversions for Community trophy plus an additional $5,000 for the Marcellin College Rugby Parent Support Group bringing her total tally to $11,000 worth of funds, courtesy of RaboDirect.
Ms Dinneen said she was delighted to be honoured as Volunteer of the Year. “It feels very humbling. Some of my fellow finalists have been with their organisations for over 20 years and together we have a combined 140 years of volunteer experience so it feels amazing to be here today with people who are doing what they love.”
“We were just discussing at our AGM how lovely it would be for the boys to have new t-shirts and training tops so the funds from RaboDirect will be put towards getting those. A new scoreboard has also been a dream for a while now so it will be absolutely fantastic to see that through,” Ms Dinneen said. (View Bernadette Dinneen’s Volunteer of the Year video here).
Launched in 2014, RaboDirect’s Conversions for Community program recognises the invaluable contribution of Victorian Rugby volunteers whose dedication and loyalty ensures the success of the sport at school, charity, community and Club level. Over the course of RaboDirect’s five-year partnership with the Rebels the bank has donated more than $200,000 in much-needed funds and equipment to the Victorian Rugby Union community through Conversions for Community, and the Conversions for Clubs program that preceded it.
Greg McAweeney, Group Executive, RaboDirect & Marketing, and Conversions for Community judge, congratulated Bernadette Dinneen on behalf of RaboDirect. “Conversions for Community shines a light on the people at the grassroots level of the Victorian rugby community who are the lifeblood of the game – the volunteers – celebrating and rewarding these unsung heroes. Bernadette has made a tremendous contribution to grassroots Rugby at School level as a long-serving committee member of the Marcellin College Rugby Parent Support Group, selflessly donating her time and experience. “
“I am thrilled with the eight finalists that were selected for our 2015 Conversions for Community program. The calibre of this year’s nominees was incredibly high and without the work of our finalists, and the passion and dedication of all volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to support their clubs and players, Victorian Rugby Union would not enjoy the great success that it enjoys today.”
The announcement of the Conversions for Community Volunteer Award is the final stanza in the RaboDirect Rebels partnership and McAweeney wished the Melbourne Rebels and the Victorian Rugby community the best for the future. “We leave the Rebels on a sustainable footing, both in the Super Rugby competition, and at grass roots level, and we will continue to be keen supporters of Rugby Union from the sidelines,” he said.
