Get more out of your RaboDirect Term Deposit portfolio with the right strategy.
Strategy 1
Increase your income
You can choose when your interest is paid with term deposits of a year or more.
This means you can still buy those shoes while saving for your dream holiday because you can get a regular, guaranteed cash flow while still earning higher interest rates on your longer term investments.
Strategy 2
Laddering
What is laddering?
If you had $75,000 that you wanted to ‘ladder’ equally over three years, you’d invest $25,000 into a three-year term, $25,000 into a two-year term, and $25,000 into a one-year term.
As each term matures you invest the funds into a new three-year term deposit.
This strategy means each year a term deposit matures and you can reinvest it for another three-years.
So, you can reap the benefit of higher interest rates in the longer Term Deposits and don’t have to lock your entire investment away into one term and one rate.
Strategy 3
Bullets
How about the bullet strategy?
In a five-year bullet strategy, you invest a portion of $75,000 in a five-year term deposit, leaving the balance in a High Interest Savings Account.
Each month, as rates fluctuate, you can choose the best one to invest a further portion of your $75,000.
You keep doing this until your full $75,000 is invested making sure each one matures at around the same time as the first one.
