Tim has more than 15 years experience in Australian and New Zealand banking, financial services, wealth management and financial markets and has focused on delivering unique and innovative investment and risk management solutions for retail, wholesale and institutional investors.

Tim joined Rabobank in February 2006 as the Director, Structures and Investments and as part of the Global Financial Markets business working extensively in the structured credit, interest rate and fund derivates and commodity-linked investment markets.

He has been part of Rabobank’s International Direct Banking business for the past four years and is responsible for the strategic development, growth and management of the savings and investments businesses for both RaboDirect Australia and New Zealand. He is a member of the RaboDirect Australia and New Zealand Management Teams, a founding member of their Investment Committees, is a Responsible Manager for RaboDirect Australia and founding member of the Joint Governance Committee for joint managed investment products for Rabobank New Zealand Limited and AMP Capital Investors (New Zealand) Limited.

Prior to joining Rabobank, Tim spent over four years in the wealth management industry working for a specialist investment firm focused on structured credit investments, alternative investment strategies and structured product development.

Prior to his time in wealth management, Tim spent more than five years working in the Financial Markets at The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) in the credit and interest rate markets.

Getting your SMSF right helps keep the tax man happy.

With RaboDirect’s recent launch of its Online Self Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) Service, I suspect it won’t be too long before many initial enquiries convert across to new SMSF funds. The SMSF arena is the fastest growing area of superannuation in Australia and there’s nothing on the horizon to suggest it will slow any time soon.

The pitfalls and the positives of auto-rolling term deposits

If you are a fan of term deposits (TDs) with their guaranteed rates and fixed terms, you may well be choosing to, either consciously or unconsciously, ‘auto-roll’ (re-invest) your investment when it matures. This means that when you took out a TD investment, you agreed to let your bank (or other TD provider) reinvest that money into another investment of the same term if you don’t notify them to the contrary before maturity.
